A Pacific Northwest Safari. Northwest Trek Eatonville, Washington.

We recently learned that you don’t have to trek all the way to Africa to go on a memorable safari.  If you find yourself in the Pacific northwest, the best way to get a feel for our diverse flora and fauna is to visit Northwest Trek in Eatonville, Washington.  Sitting on a sprawling 725 acres, this wildlife park is home native animals such as cougars, wolves, elk, American bison, and eagles.  The park boasts a plethora of outdoor exhibits where you can watch the native animals roam in their natural habitats.

For us, the most alluring part of Northwest Trek is their tram ride that takes you through three different zones on over 400 acres.  You’ll have the opportunity to see free roaming bighorn sheep, elk, and moose- to name a few.  The 50-minute tour is led by a knowledgeable naturalist guide who’ll not only spot the camouflaged animals, but provide you with interesting facts and stories.

If you’re a wildlife enthusiast who wants to take in all that the PNW has to offer, make sure to take a trip to Northwest Trek.

Their mission:
Northwest Trek Wildlife Park is dedicated to conservation, education and recreation by displaying, interpreting and researching native northwest wildlife and their natural habitats.

We visited the park during the rut season in the fall.  This is when the breeding season happens and it was the perfect time to see male elk locking antlers and fighting over their mate.  It was a little chilly so be sure to pack a thick jacket and a pair of sturdy gloves.
