With Valentine’s day upon us we wanted to write a post that would inspire love and affection. After trying and failing multiple times, we decided to leave it in the hands of our fellow colleagues and bloggers. We asked some of our favorite traveling couples to weigh in on the most romantic destinations that they’ve been to.
Breckenridge, Colorado. (by Twenty-Something Travel, Art of Backpacking)
We’ve been to so many beautiful tropical beaches and elegant cities, but the most romantic trip we ever took was to Breckenridge, Colorado. We went in May, so there wasn’t much snow, but the Rocky Mountains gleaming in the early evening sun made a stunning backdrop when Mike got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! After that we spent a fun weekend exploring the high mountain passes together. It might have been the love in the air, or the high altitude, but I was light-hearted and giddy our whole stay, and I smile every time I remember.
San Francisco, California. (by GQ Trippin)
If you’re looking for great food and a laidback vibe with a touch of romance, look no further than the city by the bay – San Francisco. We celebrated our very first Valentine’s Day here nearly 10 years ago (and every other year since), so trust us when we say nothing screams most romantic destination more than Victorian inns, zig-zaggy hills and a big red bridge overlooking the Pacific. It’s a city that oozes romance year round and we frequently make excuses to drive up to spend the day sampling artisan food at the Ferry Building, shopping at Union Square, indulging in Happy Hour oysters at Fisherman’s Wharf and catching sunset in the Presidio. It’s a city where we fell in love. I guess you can say we left our hearts in San Francisco.
Everywhere. (by No Vacation Required)
When it comes to romantic getaways, we seek out destinations that provide the perfect setting to clear mental clutter, expand our relationship and just be. We also find that we don’t mind a little adventure thrown in. So, oddly, our most “romantic” experiences have occurred in places like the backcountry of Glacier National Park and a trail along the Napili coast in Kauai. Most recently, we spent a killer long weekend at a remote, ski-in-only cabin nestled in the mountains of northern Washington.
Jardin du Luxembourg, France. (by Pause the Moment)
Escape from the endless amount of tourist traps in Paris by spending an afternoon at the Jardin du Luxembourg, also known as the Luxembourg Gardens, the second largest public park in Paris. Stroll the colorful gardens, bask in the summer sun and enjoy a Parisian picnic with your loved ones.
Costa Brava, Spain. (by Gone with the Wynns)
Asking us for our most romantic destinations is like asking us for our favorite place, it’s impossible. We’ve traveled nonstop for almost 3 years now, living in less than 200sq feet (we travel in an RV). There are no secrets left, we spend almost every waking moment together and yet, we still get googly eyed in the right setting. Recently we took another road trip through Costa Brava (we made a similar trip 2 years ago) and it hit us in a whole new way…a sexy Brad and Angelina kinda way. We found ourselves completely enveloped in the slow moving, chic, Mediterranean and slightly gothic urban renaissance. Surrounded by Castles, rugged beaches, rainbows and breathtaking architecture we couldn’t resist snuggling, cuddling and making out like teenagers. The sexy coast of Spain is truly a magical place…or maybe it was just all the Cava we were drinking.
Langkawi, Malaysia. (by Don’t Ever Look Back)
Staying in a premium chalet above tropical emerald waters makes Langkawi the most romantic destination we’ve been to. There is so much serenity that we could enjoy each other’s company over delicious food, stunning sunsets and at a fraction of the price you would pay for a similar experience in the Maldives or Tahiti.
Chiang Mai, Thailand. (by Captain and Clark)
It might sound extremely cliche, but Thailand is one of the most magical places on earth. It’s easy on the budget, has an endless amount of entertainment, and provides secluded spots to sneak away with a loved one. Our favorite memory was renting a tiny jungle hut and spending our days sitting on the porch watching the sunset.
We’re cheaters. We couldn’t pick just one place and since this is our blog we’re allowed to break the rules. One more “romantic destination” for good measure, would have to be …
Penis Park, South Korea. (by Captain and Clark)
It’s really in the name, isn’t it? We don’t want to spoil too much of it for you. We’ll let the video below do that.
What do you think? We’d love to hear the most romantic destination that you’ve been to. Leave your recommendation in the comments section below. Oh, and happy Valentine’s Day!
Love,

The only place I’ve been here is Chiang Mai, and I have to agree that it’s so romantic. Guess, I will have to add these other ones to my list, starting with the Penis Park, of course!

Nice. We were hoping so. Tawny and I will just be catching the tail end of Winter in Venice and it’s always nice to have love in the air.

I love the Chiang Mai, Thailand place because it is one of the best places for honeymoons, anniversaries and special dates. The serenity and peacefulness of the venue makes it more romantic and solemn.
