Getting sexy in Croatia

It’s that time again. Valentine’s day is right around the corner (ahem two days away) and as part of the Expedia Viewfinder team, we’ve been tasked with sharing one of the sexiest destinations we’ve discovered.

Grab a fan because it’s about to get hot in here.

Sexiest place to visit Croatia

According to the 2015 Expedia Heat Index, travel has quite the impact on a romance. It should come as no shock to our readers that one of the sexiest places we’ve been to is Croatia. This is the place for romance. Our first trip to this magical country was only one month after our wedding and although we flew to Hawai’i shortly after our nuptials, we felt that our trip to Croatia was an extension of our honeymoon.

So, what makes Croatia so damn sexy? We’re glad you asked.

The scenery.

We have this joke that beautiful babies are made in beautiful surroundings. We’re talking candlelit rooms, scattered rose petals, and Marvin Gaye crooning in the background. If that truly were the case, it’d be safe to say that Ryan Gosling was probably conceived in Croatia.

From picturesque medieval towns to waterfall-riddled national parks, Croatia is chock full of natural beauty. Take, for example, Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Meh. If immense beauty is your thing...

This is the oldest national park in Southeast Europe and home to a plethora of gorgeous lakes and idyllic waterfalls. Plitvice Lakes National Park is the ideal spot to take a loved one for a picnic and stroll amongst nature at its finest.  I can guarantee that beautiful babies are made here all the time.

If waterfalls aren’t your thing, might we suggest a trip to the Istria province.

Best things to see in Rovinj, Croatia

I would recommend a steamy stay in the coastal town of Rovinj (pictured above). It looks like it came straight out of a fairytale with its beloved church perched high over the village below. Take your Valentine on handheld walks around Old Town and then head out for a winery tour and lunch at Villa Meneghetti. If you get a little too tipsy, you can even stay the night in one of the winery’s four beautifully restored hotel rooms.

There’s no shortage of romantic activities around this magical province.

Another reason why we find Croatia sexy?

The food.

Did you know that truffles are an aphrodisiac? It’s said that Napoleon himself would often be found indulging in truffles, and while it might not have helped with his height, he swore that they improved his masculine “potency”. Luckily for us, these pungent and delicious fungi are littered among Istria’s forests, just waiting to be unearthed and devoured.

While they might not appear to be the most photogenic food (let’s be honest, most aphrodisiacs are hideous. Oysters, anyone?), they sure are delicious. In fact, the next time someone uses the pickup line, “How do you like your eggs in the morning?” you can answer with “loaded with truffles”. That’s how we had them at truffle haven, Karlić Tartufi and let me tell you, I was feeling mighty fine when we left.

 The price.

Compared to a lot of Europe, your euro will go much farther in Croatia. Four course meals, bottles of wine, and plush hotel rooms will come at a fraction of the price thus making it easier for you and your loved one to truly indulge. Treat yourself to the magic of this country and be sure to send us those pictures of your Croatia-made babies.

If you’re planning your next steamy getaway, be sure to check out Expedia’s Valentine’s promotion and follow them on Instagram. Their latest sweepstakes features an opportunity to win a $2,500 voucher towards a trip with LAN Airlines.

Any particular hostels or hotels that you all recommend? Particularly in the cities of Split and Hvar? Thank you!

We haven’t stayed there ourselves, but we hear “Old Town Hostel” in Split is awesome. We hope you’re enjoying yourselves.

I am very glad for this positive things about Croatia, I like this country, a like a lot. My suggestion is to explore places there not so commercial and crowded with tourist (Especially Istra peninsula, Gorski Kotar etc. Other Balkan countries are also sexy and romantic, try to find time and visit, Bosnia and Herceovina, Belgrade in Serbia, Ohrid in Macedonia, Albania…
